Leadership

How many of watched the Obama concert yesterday? I was in awe of the show. I felt my patriotism rise and I began to feel that pride of being American again. Then I wondered how does this man keep his hope alive. How do you lead the free world, face all the troubles and tribulations that surely are coming his way with hopefulness. I watched his beautiful wife smile and move to the music and I wondered what wakes her up in the middle of the night. Hope made this leader what he is...what a wonderious thing that is. How do we sustain such hope?

  1. I missed the concert. I certainly hope and pray that he can sustain the hope and vision that he has. I hope that Congress and the american people will support him. We're in a tough situation right now and need all the hope and prayers we can get. This morning I heard a fellow saying that this country has never been in this much trouble before. Obviously, U.S. history wasn't his best subject as the USA has survived in times much worse than what we're going through now. I'm confident that this country will survive, just as TPC will survive. I truly believe that all of us, the american people and TPC, may come through this with a few bumps and bruises but we'll all be stronger than ever before.

As for feeling patriotism: This may sound sappy but...at a parade I always put my hand over my heart when the flag goes by. I also get tears in my eyes when I see the flag go by and/or hear the Star Spangled Banner. Of course, spending 42 years with someone who was so committed to protecting our shores that he spent over 20 of them proudly serving in the USAF might have a little something to do with it. No matter who is sitting in the oval office or what state our economy is in or whatever crisis we may be facing I have never lost the pride I feel in being an American. There folks, I'll stop waving the flag and get off my soapbox.

  2. Hope is a powerful thing. Hope is a great motivator. Maybe he got that hope from the wonderful grandmother he speaks so often about. Maybe hope comes from our roots and is instilled in us by someone in our childhood who always had great hope. Hope is essential and hope is real. Hope is like breathing. Hope is what keeps the human race surviving. Hope is essential.

  3. I am certain that you are correct Kathy. I wish that I could feel hope without some cynicism sneaking into the moment. I am very interested in how we keep it alive and how ordinary people live with a hopeful outlook. How can we act as leaders and keep hope alive.

  4. Obama takes office, saying choose 'hope over fear'. Stepping into history, Barack Hussein Obama grasped the reins of power as America's first black president on Tuesday, declaring the nation must choose "hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord"......AWESOME!!!!!
