Working out III ...Keep us going

Okay so this is the third thread of working out...But now I need to have more accountability. As I take on caring for the grandchildren I find my days are so full of "things to do" that working out becomes less and less part of my routines. In a few weeks I will have a full time Nanny so that will be helpful. But still I want to keep working out. Today was a total bust...nothing at all. So ladies keep me honest.

Priscilla I am shocked at your success...You ROCK. With the weather improving it seems like a really good time to be working out, just the work around the yard is great. I am not letting go and intend to get back on track. This has been very helpful to me and certainly look forward to hearing from you all. Thanks for input and support. Now tell me why I want to get moving!

  1. Nothing good from on my end today - weather ugly and so much to do with work.

Deb, I need to know details? Darlings are with you now??

  2. Oh my daughter is in law school finals so her two girls are here with me, on top of everything else for her she broke her foot and is in a boot! She is just a little stressed. The thing I am not good at is finding time for me when I have them, the good thing is there is not a lot of time to sit around snacking.

This morning I am up and doing a twenty minute work out on with my new favorite. Will let you know how that works out for me. Nothing yesterday...ugh Except that Priscilla is looking great!

  3. Deb, lots of respect for you and know you love the girls. Great thing to do for your daughter. Did read you took on more state-wide projects too so.. just watch out for yourself:)

Today for me: up at the crack of dawn, did some garden work (so nice out) Lunch break was heading downtown to pick up my bike and errands. Roy's did a great job on my 20 year old bike and encouraged me to keep it, it is a great bike, esp with Roy’s work.

Then... I test rode the bike up a medium hill, thought I was going to die... upon return, realized neighbor dog Riley followed me.

Reprimanded and returned villain Riley to neighbor, George. Who told me that hill was no big deal and challenged me to ride with him tomorrow. NOT going to happen, but want to see him do it since he's not for year. Arnie gave me comfort afterwards, he agreed - it is hard hill :)

So, that's my rambling story for the day. I plan to conquer the hill and go on to much more.

  4. That is a funny story indeed. I think these warm days do test us with much to do outside. I have never been able to bike, every few years I decide that I am going to take it up and within the first couple of rides I give up. I will see how your adventure goes before I try again. I am off to take some Advil and work out. Happy Saturday.

  5. So what did everyone else do on this glorious day?

I had a hard time deciding esp since the morning got eaten up. Am the newly appointed confidant to our neighbor with marital, health, and financial issues. Not crazy about involvement but she does need our support.

Afternoon was cleaning out and planting our raised beds - mostly done and got some exercise, prob more than I think looking at the wheelbarrow full of weeds.

LOVE these days - exercise, a little too much sun, very dirty feet, shower at 4:30, wine on the front porch at 5:00 and yum grilled dinner... and now approaching bedtime!

  6. I am totally with you. Too much cleaning and old leave removal without enough formal exercise but in the balance a good amount of work out time. Porch and sun and enjoying tank top weather was great. Oh don't you hate those confusing life circumstances that take away from just plain enjoying the day...But you are right it is important to be there for people. I am loving that summer is really coming and winter finally feels done! Wine and dinner and good night stories with the little ones..It does not get better!

  7. A superb day to be outside. Hubby and I did a lot of yard work. I let him tackle moving big rocks. He seems to enjoy this! We don't have much of a yard, but once things starts to grown it will look better. Visited friends in the afternoon, and swapped laundry on the clothesline off and on all day. No formal exercise, but very enjoyable! Wine and burgers from the grill and life is good! Today family arriving for Daniels 22nd birthday!! Gym tomorrow..the knee is still tender, but much better.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Oh Happy Birthday to Daniel. Aren't yard days the best. I am back at Gym on Monday...will do in house routine this morning. Yard work from yesterday kicked my back a bit last night...of course the wine helped! Nancy fill us in on the bike ride...Kathy let us know how it goes with your knee after a day of yard work. Happy Sunday..Oh yes and Priscilla probably lost another 5 pounds since Friday :)...Seriously Laurie any long walks and PB how is your knee?

  9. Went for a walk in the woods today. Also did some yard work in the am. Ailie and I walked around Portland yesterday for a couple of hours. Yoga in the evening -- poses that target the kidney meridians -- slept so well last night. Getting ready for an early start to Tennessee tomorrow. Ailie's packing text books and IPod. I'm going light -- laptop (not in TPC bag) -- not even bringing my purse. I plan on swimming in the pool at the hotel every day. Also am going to get a couple of kayaks (here in Maine, not in TN). I like being on the water but can't handle a canoe by myself.

  10. As usual, Laurie wins the prize :) Know Kathy had other plans today, hope the party went well. Deb, how about you?

For me... intended to work the gardens then take a bike ride. Headed to the gardens then 4pm suddenly came, needed a shower (badly – you should have seen my feet, legs, and arms) and that was it for the day.

Arnie thought I was crazy because I huffed and puffed a few full wheelbarrows over the field to our dumping spot in the woods. Could have used my tractor or he would have done it with his (we did a few with his) … but it was great exercise. I hurt all over :) Was a good day.

PS – the bad part was finding shorts that fit me – that was NOT good, better improve.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Nothing today for me except I was hurting from yesterday - all good. Big quarterly meeting tomorrow so caught in work.

Kind of on the good side... found a recipient for my size 2's from I needed after Mom died (no where near fit now) BUT my regular summer clothes are beginning to fit. Still have a way to go. Feeling for the lady taking the small clothes – she has major health issues. Damn

    ReplyDelete
  12. I am hurting today...tired from sleeping in twin bed with four year old grand daughter...I am not doing my exercises well...yesterday good workout and tomorrow back at it...hey Nancy good on the size 2's but sad for health issues!!!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Did my forty minutes of work out...felt really good. Walked and enjoyed the hot dry air. Getting ready for Rotary and doing a quick work out before shower...gym at 4...hold me to it!

    ReplyDelete
  14. You go Deb! Wow!

I did not post yesterday because I was in an ugly anti-social mood (did not even call Dad) I laid on a couch by 7:00 and ignored the world.

Nothing here yesterday or today between meetings, prepping for a tomorrow’s big training meeting, and just being in an horrid mood (I do think it was instigated by Arnie... but it could just be me) Saying this makes my mood worse... :)

Tomorrow afternoon I SHOULD be back to normal so will walk or take the bike out late day (hold me accountable – I’m going to want to work late and should not) Friday I'm heading to MA to pick up my "new" car... Wish the old one was sold … it will be soon (better be)

Nothing really wrong, work is very challenging but fine, weather is great… a little stressed about some personal things MOSTLY not about me… why am I so ugly (oh, and not time of month…) Oh no.. should I re-read the hot flash post? I’ve had them since age 30 so never paid much attention :)

40 minutes PLUS the gym -- gosh. Kathy, did you go to the gym with Deb? PB – what’s up with you?? And.. PV must be reading now – post!!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Okay Nancy and Kathy and PV if you are out there..never left office til after 6 and well yes you got it ...Never got to gym...thank goodness for work out this morning. Kathy we are planning 7am Tue and Thur right??? I really need a routine and the guilt of pulling another into my crazy plan to work out despite my over zealous self. Nancy I hear you...some days life just gets so freaking hard...it is okay to flop on the couch and take care of number one!!! You do amazing work. Hey what is the new car??? What is the old car you are selling?
I hear the feeling ugly stuff..it is everywhere..not certain but it is in the air. I have been sad and overwhelmed all week. What up with that? Stay strong and remember that Nancy is a great person. I sure do think so! Still I want to know what is the new car? You will enjoy it I know. I love new cars (even when they are someone else's old car...even better b/c I can feel like I got a deal!)

    ReplyDelete
  16. You haven't seen me here lately, have you ladies!! I have been an exercise slacker!! I was asked to create a schedule for Lori at work, and on Tuesday and Thursday morning I put, GYM WITH DEB!!! I will be there!! Nancy, life is too hard to deal with some days, even if it isn't about us directly. We are people who care, and life affects us. It's ok to take a mental health day and be ugly, grumpy, sad, and wanting to be left alone. We need to sometimes, and then we can lick our wounds and get back into the day to day. And I love new cars too! Wonder if I will ever have one again? You ladies are great! Let's get together for God sake!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I did not come through. All I did was some mad pulling in the gardens early AM and a short walk up the hill before dinner - not enough.

Too much going on with work... working on cutting back hours (back to reasonable 8 hours, State issues are driving me batty) Guess I need to stop bragging about keeping balance... none now. Monday… back to it? I hope.

    Deb and Kathy - fantastic!!!!

Buying a used 2008 Solara convertible (red) with 6K miles... Selling a 2006 2.5 Jetta with 25K miles. Both are great cars, hope the Solara will suit me in the winter… Arnie always has an extra vehicle though.

It's a 2 year process of rolling my precious Volvo (Jetta is great but not the same - Volvo bills were killing me so I went for a good deal quick) and 40th bday gift to me (little convertible which sold last fall) into one.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Oops forgot - re "Let's get together for God sake!"

Arnie is gone for a few day in May for ice out... let's try for then here?

Or some other time or place, does not really matter to me :) We need to do it.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Let's do it!! Ice out in May!!! Ice in the glasses the same day!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. He's aiming for the weekend (give or take) of 5/16. Assuming weekends are bad for this group (although OK with me since he'll be gone) Sun 5/17, Mon 5/18 or perhaps even Tues 5/19 could work.

All based on the weather although.. remember he is willing to go next door for the evening anytime but I don't want it the evening before he returns or the evening he returns.

Let's just get it on the calendar and go from there.

Nothing healthy from me today – picking up the car in MA, registering it, and getting inspected was an all day effort. Should have included my time into the "bargain" equation... lesson learned. Love the car though, much better for my back. Hope top is down sometime this weekend :)

    ReplyDelete
  21. That sounds great...both the car and the getting together. And that time might just work for me as well. So I am open...I am thinking Sunday would be nice since we don't have to figure out end of work day stuff...Maybe even get together earlier in the day. I all about enjoying some nice weather and girl talk.

My work outs ..ugh..Thursday I did okay and did a regular work out but Yesterday (when I really did have the time) I did not much but be lazy...Will try again today. It comes down to the balance we all struggle to keep.

    ReplyDelete
  22. My sister is moving here from Bangor that weekend, and I won't be available then. I am thinking of taking a long weekend soon. I think that might help me find some balance, for a little while at least. No formal exercise, just busy work off and on all weekend......

    ReplyDelete
  23. Ok -- we will come up with another date. Need you here :)

I've been in a scramble - still want to post to the hot flash blog. Sit here all winter bored with "nothing" to do (there is but sometimes I abstain) then suddenly... life changes :) Need to step it down a little... Feel like I am on screech… but that could be last week’s schedule which should calm down.

Not great but not too bad this weekend. I am on a major mission cleaning out 2 overgrown gardens (ignored last year) Lots of digging, my right leg should be in great shape soon. Wore a pair of capris today which I could not get into for Hilton Head. Little uncomfortable but that’s good for me to realize. At least they fit and only I knew they were not perfect fit.

Kathy, good idea taking a long weekend. Deb - great with your Thurs workout. What's going on with the cutie child care?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Let me tell you I am exhausted with child care...these guys are a lot of work...But just sat here and watched Bob (who is visiting south paris) do his many "acts" for the girls with his travel toothbrush...To hear their little laughter and giggles while he flipped from southern nut to down east red neck making his tootbrush a phone, a nose eater and a radio antenna was pretty fun. I did the shorter but \
good work out this morning and plan to be at
gym at 6:45 looking for Ms Kathy at 7 ...have to be in Lewiston by 9 so running from there to here to car...Life is crazy and all I want is to be planting my flowers. Wish I was better with veggies! Nancy good deal with the capris...I have a similar pair and by the end of the day I am glad to remove them ---looking forward to when they are comfortable all the time. keep it up. See you in the am KB.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I really like going to the gym at 7 a.m. First time in two weeks. The knee felt pretty good until the very end, but I managed 35 minutes and I felt super after, and went to work energized! I plan to be back Thursday morning at 7, and then the NAMI walk on Saturday. Keep on keepin' on everyone!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Deb -- don't know how you do it. I could not... and you are still keeping it up. Fantastic, want a wonderful grandmother.

Kathy -- yes yes yes!! Motivation is there and you are going!

Me, I am now a slacker - gardening is so great but when it rains I just give in and work sitting on my butt (lots of work which I can manage better for free time).

Have toned some but that's from the weekends. Am a little down in weight at the moment.

Have not walked, ridden bike, used WII or been in the garden since Monday.

Have been obsessed with clean house - in anticipation of not having weekend time for all above reasons. Yes, it is clean...

I need a kick in the butt

    ReplyDelete
  27. Okay Nancy...get out on your BIKE!!! I am going to get up tomorrow morning and get my ass to the gym...You can get out on your bike for 20 minute...OR WII...tomorrow night If it were not for Kathy hitting the gym tomorrow morning I would not either...but alas I have to do it! We all have to b/c we will be unhappy if we do not. Kathy and I are trying to get a trip to your place ...hope to bring us all together. Lets try. Keep the faith Miss Nancy you can do it. I know you can.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Nancy, it sounds like you work very hard and that accounts for a lot of exercise so don't be so hard on yourself. It's all about moving, doing important and FUN things, working hard, being kind to yourself, and enjoying your life, and you are doing all of that. I got to the gym at 6:45 this morning and opted for the stationary bike (MUCH safer than a real one, I must say!) and I did 6.5 miles and then a few light weights. It is a good thing that I counted on Deb being there also, because it would be so easy to talk myself out of it if I knew that no one else were there to be accountable to, but I am so glad I went!! It really is very energizing and a great way to start the day. Keep the faith, one and all!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Oh Kathy - you are hot!!! Keep it going

Did take out the sad Wii for a little while today some abs and aerobics - no bike, to much rain. Should have used on of Deb's exercise videos.

Hoping tomorrow (or at least by Monday) I'll start waking up at sunrise with the sun glaring in my eyes (sleep on my left side direct to east window - no blinds, we are in the country) and get in the gardens till 8am.. or maybe 9am ... heck, I never take a real lunch.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Nancy good woman getting out the Wii and hey today is sunny so it will be easier to stop and take a walk. I know you are hard on yourself ...like I am on myself but you are amazing and do so much for so many. Besides the Capri pants fit... Kathy thanks for keeping me going..I would not have gone yesterday at all but felt so much better for going...I also feel like I have so much more energy during the day when I start with a simple work out...I only did 15 minutes and some weights but it was great.
Got to go to Bangor today..ugh so likely nothing. Catch up tomorrow!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Did the NAMI walk with my sister, Bonny and daughter Sara. It was a 5k walk, and a lot of fun. With all the excitement, it didn't seem like exercise at all! Great Day!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I am back... need to try to keep posting since with weather change more things to do than computer off hours now.

Kathy, great on the walk Sat. I love that stuff.

I pushed hard in the gardens on Sat, very hard.

Sun, not good, today not good hope both have to do with Mom' passing last summer and I hope am over it for a little while. This summer thimking is going to be tough.

Hope the sun wakes me tomorrow and I'll do something early on. Have to!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yep I am going to gym in Morning...looking for Kathy ...got to try and get some sleep but still wired from crazy day...Nancy we need to plan a road trip to you!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I won't be in the gym Thursday morning! I need to go into work early and check on a fax for a young fella wanting to go to training day tomorrow, plus get folks ready to go for the event. I'm gonna shoot for Friday but staff is sparce, to say the least! Have been walking when I get the chance, and still focused on the goal!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Great Deb and Kathy! Me? I've been shoveling compost and mulch early morning and the evening (though skipped tonight for softserve)

Garden work is overwhelming -- so much to do this weekend -- and so much to pull up! Make a road trip to Turner and get some before they are too big!! Or wait, and take chances (but will be fine next year)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Ah We must figure out next Tuesday or Wednesday Kathy? I think a road trip is a great idea..

I am going to try to get to the gym tomorrow morning---did nothing today so got to catch up tomorrow. Kathy you are doing great. Nancy I hear you on the gardens and I am looking to do some this weekend myself. I am thinking I am taking Kathy's advice around using rail road ties for container garden.

    ReplyDelete
  37. It seems I have traded my workout for a CT scan of the abdomen on Friday morning. Been feeling uncomfortable for a while, and in the middle of last night, had a painful attack. I have history, surgeries and such, so gonna get it checked out. No worries! I am tough gal! :) Happy to hear about the railroad ties, Deb! They do make a nice garden. Well, back to my toast and chicken broth!!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Arnie is gone prob Sunday through most of the week so was going today say come on over Tues or Wed for dinner and get some plants. But, Kathy, would you be up for it if I cooked you something to agree with your tummy? So sorry you are not feeling well.

Let me know, my schedule is flexible next week except for Thurs.

    ReplyDelete
  39. My favorite weird orange Eddie Bauer capris are again a little baggy! Not falling off of me like last fall (which is good) but I barely fit into them for Hilton Head. YES! I will test some others tomorrow to make sure I did not just stretch them out….

    ReplyDelete
  40. Yeah on the Capris...I could do Tuesday...Wed I have to go to Frederick Ave for evening visit...I laughed out loud about the capris and maybe stretched...that would be my first thought too! I worked in the garden double time yesterday and doing my morning work out right now..Kathy how are you?

    ReplyDelete
  41. I am not feeling quite myself.....I will see the Dr. tomorrow morning and hopefully find some answers. Enjoying a lovely bland diet. :) I tried on my fav short yesterday and they were very comfy. Thank God they are well worn and stretch accordingly! LOL! Not much exercise here. My sister moved in and have been helping with that. Hope to get back to my regular self soon! See you in the mornin' Deb.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Well, I am having more tests and going on a couple of antibiotics, which will no doubt make me very sick....CT scan was good. More test on the pancreas and antibiotics for inflamed intestinal track. Now doesn't that sound lovely? I am not up for the gym at this point, but they will get a nice donation until I get back to it. I am still smiling though!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Hey that sounds good and bad...totally understand that you are not up for gym...will give you some breaks for certain. Oh yeah got to love the antibiotics...what would we do without them? You will be your old self soon ...I think!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Hey Nancy how did the other capris pants fit?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Busted! So Kathy caught me ...I did not go to the gym today. I did absolutely nothing..Thinking about getting out for a walk but the operative word is thinking..Having just gotten on the couch I am not sure I will get up again. Ahhhh I need a kick in the back side!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I am busted much more than you Deb! Have not even posted anything. And missed that you could come on Tuesday – have piles of plants in the wheelbarrows and gardens ready to go.

Arnie left Sunday, all my bragging about work/personal balance... proved to myself I need someone here to keep me honest. Have worked non-stop and slept, that's it – oh and ate crappy, a pound of pasta cooked Sunday and through the rest out tonight.

I started closet cleanup on Sun and never finished (ended up working with hopes of taking time off for gardens in the week.) Need to at least move stuff off the bed tomorrow (I slept in spare room) Have more clothing to give away than I thought imaginable… and I have not hit pants or jackets.

Work project is just about complete – it was programming which I love to do. I really try not to be to a workaholic... just sometimes have the tendency. damn. Although I have enjoyed it and, the end result is pretty slick.

Tomorrow Augusta for MC meeting, girls night in the evening (I better show up) then hoping to take Fri - Mon off and get my ass and gardens in shape. I’ve been very bad, will try not to let this happen again (although it has happened before… )

Totally my fault and I need to keep better balance.. MUST keep better balance.

    ReplyDelete
  47. You know I have really struggled and keep saying it will turn around. I am so crazy busy right now and the little personal time I have I just want to fix my house. I would also like to learn more about container gardening for some tomatoes, peppers and a few herbs..so I will try to take a walk today. Keep the faith it is all good.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Doing OK here with all the garden work -- does keep weight off.

But... attacked breaking up a huge plant we pulled up yesterday (it was huge) My weight and spade failed me, I went flying and twisted my knee (spent a long time on the ground praying I was not done for the summer) babying it and taking lots of ibuprofen... will give till Thurs for improvment before Dr.

At least it's not my bad knee...

    ReplyDelete
  49. Oh no I hate that...You know the minute it happens you are in trouble. I hate that kind of injury. I wish you lots of luck and will send good thoughts your way that your knee heals quickly!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Nothing here today, since weather awful. But, think knee is OK -- prob good not to get tempted to do anything for a few days. Scared the crap out of me since I don't want to be down for the summer (other knee is bad because of skiing) Learned my lesson, I hope :)

    ReplyDelete
  51. I know how you feel Nancy. When I took that flip on my bike, it was like slow motion to the ground and after it all happened, I just sat there and couldn't move. Thank God Dan was there to help me up...over a month later and the bruises are still fading but the knee is feeling ok. Not much exercise, walking and staying busy. Happy to be feeling better! :)

    ReplyDelete
  52. I am just plan being lazy and not doing much either..slow strolls, hanging around the house doing usual yard work ...but no real work out. Maybe tomorrow I will kick myself a bit! Hmmm it is worth considering. Be good for my mental health.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Yep, a good workout would be good for your MH. Know you feel good afterwards.

Not doing much here but yardwork but I am very aggressive and obstinate so it's paying off. My shorts and capris from last year this time mostly now fit.

Once all is planted, edged, and mulched I'll get back to walking and the bike. Did knock my knee out again cleaning the damn pollen around a toilet but getting over it :) Lesson learned.

Notice a slow down of all of us posting but take it as a good sign - we are out doing stuff vs sitting at the computer as we did in the ugly winter months.

PB -- how are you doing?
